There are plenty that fit the mold for each squarely, but most are really a combination of the types, or like to think of themselves as individuals, even though they still have many of the traits from one of the pre-selected identities. It's like saying that every woman is either a Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, or Samantha. To say that each gay person belongs to one of these types is a bit deceptive. They may not be very familiar to the world at large, but they are certainly familiar to the brothers in butt fucking. That's right, we have our own stereotypes for each other, and they're much more specific than you can ever imagine. That said, when the gays see a fellow homosexual in the public sphere, we try to plug them into the convenient taxonomy the community has made for itself. A queer will tell you that we are all individuals and that those stereotypes are false and horrible. Just like the world at large may stereotype gays as mincing wrist flippers with great taste bent on giving everyone they meet a make over. It is actually broken down into a handful of substrata to which each gay belongs. However, they only appear in custom levels made with the level editor. The gay world is often represented as some sort of monolithic whole that has the same culture.
The ones in Clean Hit that do not attack the player are said to be politicians in newspaper articles found in the intro to the next chapter, Neighbors.
The Russian and Colombian thugs are shown to be large, bald African-American mobsters wearing black suits and pink shirts underneath. The only exception is in the level Clean Hit where they are sitting without moving and do not attack. Thugs will always use the patrol behavior, meaning they will walk forward until their path is obstructed, when their path is obstructed they will turn 90 degrees left. However, in the Level Editor, Biker is able to fight and perform standing executions on thugs with his cleaver. Evan Wright and Biker never encounter thugs in any of their levels. Alex can also use her chainsaw to execute thugs. If left alone, they will get back on their feet, like standard enemies. In Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, characters with the "Killing Punches" ability ( Tony, Dallas, Dirty Hands) can knock them down with their fists, allowing them to be quickly executed. Thugs may even kill the player while bleeding out before they die.īecause of this bleeding mechanic, they can be killed with a single bullet if they are far enough or haven't noticed the player, but require several to be stopped when charging at close-range. Thugs can suffer from a gunshot and still walk around the room or chase the player until they bleed to death the amount of gunfire they've taken affects the bleedout rate. Shotguns are an effective weapon as a thug will usually die from one shotgun blast and stop dead in their tracks when charging. Thugs will sprint towards the player on sight and kill them should the thug get close enough.
Thugs are immune to melee damage and can only be killed by gunfire. They use their fists to beat playable characters to death and will not use any weapon, with the exceptions of the Heavy and Inspector subtypes. Thugs are a common special type of enemy not encountered regularly until later in the games.
